Abbott Laboratories is cutting 10 jobs at its North Chicago headquarters and about 150 positions at a Santa Clara, Calif., manufacturing facility as part of ongoing efforts to shore up its diagnostic division. The process began in 2008 and involves transferring manufacturing of some diagnostics instruments to outside partners, said spokeswoman Kelly Morrison. In Santa Clara, the roughly 150 employees affected will have their positions eliminated by the end of 2012. The facility will continue to house 200 employees in research and development, sales and marketing for Abbott's hematology business.
