A Quick Picture Of Your Eye Could Help Spot Diabetes Sooner

A powerful, easy-to-use camera that takes high-resolution images of the eye could help detect early signs of diabetes and allow for more timely treatment and intervention. That’s especially important for people who have diabetes but are undiagnosed—an estimated 8 million people, or 28% of the 29.1 million total individuals in the United States with diabetes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

As diabetes rates in the United States and elsewhere continue to rise, Japanese camera-maker Canon is trying to get more of these cameras into primary care settings to identify people who already have the disease and those who are at high risk for developing it.
