Parents of children with autism and other developmental delays sometimes turn to complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) treatments, particularly if they have higher levels of education and income, new research shows. There is no Food and Drug Administration-approved medical treatment for the core symptoms of autism spectrum disorder, a lifelong neurodevelopmental condition whose hallmarks are deficits in social relatedness, repetitive thoughts, and behaviors and, often, intellectual disability.
