Getting a good tan in the future may come compliments of a drug, suggests an article in the July issue of the Archives of Dermatology.Doctors have discovered a synthetic agent that can induce tanning in a person exposed with ultraviolet-B light or regular sunlight.The drug, melanotan-1, is a synthetic derivative of the hormone that regulates skin pigmentation in the body.The drug induced tanning in three clinical trials at the University of Arizona, in which subjects were exposed to sunlight or UV-B rays.The patients also suffered less sunburn, the doctors said.
