CLEVELAND, July 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- ViewRay®, a privately held medical device company, announced today that the company’s MRIdian System, the world’s first and only MRI-guided radiation therapy system that images and treats cancer patients simultaneously, will be featured in a broad selection of user presentations during the 2015 Annual Meeting of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), the largest association of medical physicists in the world. This year’s meeting will be held July 12-16 in Anaheim, Calif.
The MRIdian System is designed to improve the accuracy of cancer treatments through a patented combination of simultaneous Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and radiation therapy delivery. With continuous soft-tissue imaging, clinicians can clearly see the cancer target, monitor where the actual radiation dose is being delivered, and adapt to changes in the patient’s anatomy all in real time while the patient is on the treatment table. This provides a more precise and personalized cancer treatment.
AAPM has selected 20 abstracts reporting on real-world clinical experience with MR-Guided Radiation Therapy from three MRIdian sites. These oral and poster presentations will include the prestigious “Best in Physics” presentation: An Integrated Model-Based Intrafractional Organ Motion Tracking Approach with Dynamic MRI in Head and Neck Radiotherapy. The presentations cover a wide range of topics including on-table adaptive treatments, real-time MR motion tracking, online Monte Carlo dose calculations, and several relating to system quality assurance.
Additionally, a number of physicist users of the MRIdian System will present on their experience in ViewRay’s booth #1331. Minsong Cao, Ph.D., Assistant Professor at UCLA, will present on MRI Guided Radiation Therapy on Sunday, July 12 at 3:00 p.m. PT and on Tuesday, July 14 at 10:00 a.m. PT; Sasa Mutic, Ph.D., Professor at Washington University, will share his experience using On-Table Adaptive Treatment on Monday, July 13 at 10:00 a.m. PT and 3:45 p.m. PT; Yingli Yang, Ph.D., Assistant Clinical Professor at UCLA, will discuss the UCLA Experience with MRIdian MR-Guided Therapy on Tuesday, July 14 at 3:45 p.m. PT; and H. Omar Wooten, Ph.D., Assistant Professor at Washington University, will present on MRIdian Treatment Planning on Wednesday, July 15 at 10:00 a.m. PT. Clinical applications experts from ViewRay will also be available in the booth to demonstrate treatment planning and delivery functionality of the system.
