FREMONT, Calif., March 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Velos, Inc., the recognized leader and trusted resource for clinical trial management information systems for large investigator sites, today announced the release of Velos eResearch Version 7, bringing a host of advanced features and functions to its customers. Velos eResearch customer base includes 20 top 25 U.S. medical centers using Velos in over 50 medical specialties. Velos eResearch customers receive 30 percent of extramural clinical research funding from the National Institutes of Health -- the largest such share for any clinical trial management system software vendor in the U.S. In addition to a wide range of functional enhancements, Version 7 further delivers on the power of Web 2.0 technology and system design.
“Before this release, Velos eResearch was already regarded by many as the technology leader in investigator-side clinical trial management systems and direct data capture,” said John S. McIlwain, President and CEO of Velos. “This release further extends that lead. The exceptional customer response to the release is also gratifying. Customers know we’re listening and investing in their future, and we’ll continue to do so.”
The company applies rigorous software quality assurance (SQA) standards in its software development process and is the only software vendor in widespread use at investigator sites that is also CFR Part 11 compliant. Among other advantages, the rigorous SQA process enables customers to rapidly move new releases from test to production environments. With Version 7, some customers moved from test environment to production use in as little as one week. More than 60 functional and system enhancements were incorporated in the release.
Priti Sahai, MD, Vice President of Product Development notes, “Version 7, launched in the year 2007 and in its 7th year since inception, moves us further along in a progression from ‘Remote Data Capture,’ where clinical trial data is essentially key punched into sponsor systems, to ‘Direct Data Capture’ where systems used at investigator sites support data capture as part of the clinical research supply chain. With Velos, systems actually used at the site can generate high quality research data, eliminate duplicate data entry, and introduce new levels of efficiency and productivity for investigators and sponsors. To accomplish this, a key is for the system to be organized around individual user workflow and to keep the amount of end user work and training required low relative to system benefits. We try to provide software that does as much behind-the-scenes work for the customer as possible.”
The prestigious academic research centers and other leading investigators who are Velos customers provide essential support for the much-needed shift in the information model in clinical research. These Velos customers have the knowledge, resources, and incentive to facilitate positive change. “We try to keep the business model simple,” said McIlwain. “If we deliver great software and service, continue to invest in superior technology, and put our customers in a position to be ever more successful, they’ll keep taking us to the next level.”
Velos eResearch Version 7 is available now. There is no extra charge for current customers.
