Thermo Fisher Scientific Introduces New High-Content Analysis Platform for Stem Cell and Oncology Research

PITTSBURGH (April 2, 2012) – Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today introduced the Thermo Scientific ArrayScan Infinity HCS Reader with 3D imaging capability, specifically designed to enhance high-content analysis for stem cell and oncology research.

The challenges posed by complex cancer research applications and cell models demand new types of imaging techniques – those that can support large-scale, high-throughput biology. High-content analysis is increasingly being used because it is particularly well suited to complex morphological analyses of cells, cell structure and aggregations of cells in colonies, yet simple enough to be applied to everyday assays such as those related to viability and proliferation. The new Thermo Scientific ArrayScan Infinity HCS Reader is specifically designed for more demanding high-content assays and cell biology. It features the latest in spinning-disk confocal technology, solid-state LED illumination, live-cell and label-free capabilities, and best-in-class image analysis and bioinformatics software.

The high-speed Nipkow spinning disk and multiple pinholes give more resolution options compared to traditional confocal (fixed pin-hole) technology. In addition, multimode widefield and confocal imaging offers a balance of image quality and performance that is ideal for tissues and complex morphologies such as angiogenic tubes and cancer stem cell colonies. Finally, the confocal module on the ArrayScan Infinity HCS Reader has a four-color LED Light Engine, bringing robust, laser-like performance without the complications and cost of lasers or the poor performance of lamp based technology.

The ArrayScan Infinity HCS Reader, with its assay development oriented software, enables complex 3D structures to be imaged more clearly, yielding more detailed quantitative information and a deeper understanding of biological changes. The ArrayScan Infinity HCS Reader with its confocal capability will be demonstrated exclusively at booth #2109 at the AACR 103rd Annual Meeting 2012 taking place March 31-April 4 at McCormick Place West in Chicago, Illinois.
