NEW YORK, Oct. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- The Endometriosis Foundation of America (EFA) has joined the Revlon LOVE IS ON 2016 Million Dollar Challenge, a fundraising competition that lives on CrowdRise.com -- the largest crowdfunding platform for good. Launched by Revlon, the Challenge was created to help charities supporting women's health raise as much money as possible for their cause. During the course of the six-week Challenge, leading women's health organizations will compete to raise as much money as possible with $1,425,000 in prize money at stake. EFA has joined the challenge on CrowdRise to raise money to support disease recognition and research.

The EFA, founded by endometriosis surgeon Tamer Seckin, MD, and Emmy-nominated host of Bravo's Top Chef and award-winning author, Padma Lakshmi, is a public health advocacy organization based on four pillars: awareness, education, research, and effective intervention. Funding from the Revlon challenge will support the EFA's efforts to elevate disease awareness and to fund landmark clinical research.
"Endometriosis is a debilitating disease, affecting one in ten women of reproductive age (breast cancer affects one in eight women in a lifetime), yet endometriosis is widely unknown among the general public and the medical community," said Seckin. "The five-year survival rate for female invasive breast cancer patients in the US has improved from 75 percent in the mid-1970s to 90 percent today, due primarily to heightened awareness, early detection, and better treatments. Padma's and my vision for the EFA has been to bring awareness to endometriosis in the same way that former first lady Betty Ford did for breast cancer."
The Revlon LOVE IS ON 2016 Million Dollar Challenge launched on CrowdRise on September 14th at 12pm ET and runs through October 26th at 1:59:59pm ET. The team that raises the most during the Challenge wins $1M, second place wins $100,000, third place wins $75,000, fourth place wins $50,000 and fifth place wins $25,000. Weekly Bonus Challenges enable charities to win up to another $175,000.
"I encourage everyone who has ever suffered from endometriosis or has a loved one who has to donate whatever they are able to help us raise money. And I commend Revlon for helping us raise awareness of an illness that affects almost 200 million women worldwide," said Lakshmi.
