June 10, 2009 - Winston-Salem, North Carolina—In the June edition, The Scientist, magazine of the life sciences, announced the winners of its 7th annual “Best Places to Work in Industry” survey. This year’s survey yielded responses from representatives of 238 companies worldwide. Targacept ranked 23rd overall in the ranking of the Top 30 Companies; a survey that included both Small Companies (1,000 or less) and Large Companies (more than 5,000 employees). Targacept currently has 113 employees.
Companies participate in the survey by invitation only. At the 238 companies in the survey, members of the science staff were asked to assess their work environment and experience according to 45 criteria in eight different categories. “This is our third consecutive year on the list, and we placed ahead of several other well-known and well-respected companies in our industry,” said J. Donald deBethizy, Ph.D., President and CEO of Targacept. “Targacept is very fortunate to have a scientific staff that is committed and passionate about their research. The continued recognition as one of the best places to work in industry is deeply rewarding to me and the other members of our management team.”
