O’FALLON, Mo., March 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Synergetics USA, Inc. announced today that it released its newest electrosurgical product; the fourth generation of electrosurgical generators, named the Malis(R) Advantage(TM). The Company believes the worldwide market for electrosurgical generators exceeds $210 million annually. Synergetics currently only participates in the neurosurgical portion of this market through an OEM relationship. The Company believes the introduction of this product will allow it to directly participate in all of this larger market.
This product is the culmination of 40 years of development. In 1966, the Malis(R) generator was invented by brothers; the late Leonard I. Malis, M.D. and Jerry L. Malis, M.D. These products became the standard of care for intracranial neurosurgery and remain so today. Dr. Jerry Malis continues to serve as Synergetics’ Executive Vice President, Chief Scientific Officer and board member.
“Today represents a milestone for Synergetics and neurosurgery,” said Gregg D. Scheller, President and Chief Executive Officer of Synergetics. “We expect the Malis(R) Advantage(TM) to offer the neurosurgeon improvements in user interface, performance, safety, and convenience over the previous generation generator. It is a product that we are very excited about and should be a profit center for years to come. We have big goals for this product and hope to find many applications for it, both inside and outside of neurosurgery.”
