The Swedish medical technology company Aerocrine has announced it will be moving its North American headquarters from New Jersey to Morrisville with plans to create 45 jobs in Wake County.
Aerocrine, which focuses on the treatment of airway diseases such as asthma, has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund, which must also be matched by a local government to qualify.
Chip Neff, president of Aerocrine Inc., said in a news release issued by Gov. Beverly Perdue’s office that the company plans to invest $219,000 in the project over the next three years. Aerocrine salaries for the new positions will average about $69,000 a year, plus benefits. The average annual wage in Wake County is $44,980.
Aerocrine has its corporate headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden, and the company’s stock is traded on the Stockholm Stock Exchange.
The company says its founders were the first to identify nitric oxide as a marker of inflammation, which is the main cause of asthma, and the company has two products that it markets globally, NIOX Flex and NIOX MINO, which are used to diagnosis and treat airways disease.
“We are excited to be moving our North American headquarters to North Carolina,” Neff said in the news release. “The state’s leading position in respiratory disease research and commercialization of cutting edge products was critical in our decision to locate our business in North Carolina.”
