Kolkata: The number of cardiac stent implants in the city could double if the price restriction on drug-eluting stents (DES) comes into effect, believe cardiologists. It will benefit thousands of heart patients who can’t afford the life-saving implant now and have to rely on medicines, they pointed out. Across the different varieties, stents are overpriced by as much as 300% making them more expensive in Kolkata than USA or UK, it was claimed.
