Stem Cells Coaxed Into Diabetes Treatment

A group of lab mice with diabetes now have normal blood sugar levels, thanks to the miracle of stem cells. For humans, this means a possible new treatment for type 1 diabetes. The study, published in the journal Laboratory Investigation, involves bone marrow cells, which are a source of stem cells -- master cells that have the capacity to grow and develop into a variety of cell types, including pancreas cells that produce insulin.
