BRENTWOOD, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Spero Health, a CARF-accredited organization specializing in local, affordable, outpatient care for individuals suffering from substance use disorders, announced the opening of a new clinic in the south Indianapolis area of Greenwood, located at 7750 Madison Avenue in Indianapolis. The Greenwood-area clinic is the organization’s 25th outpatient location spanning four states. Immediate appointments are available — patients can be seen as quickly as the same day — and individuals are encouraged to call (317) 933-8410 for more information.

The Greenwood clinic comes in response to meeting the needs in an underserved area with the goal of ensuring individuals have fast access to high-quality and affordable care. Spero Health accepts Indiana Medicaid and participates with select commercial insurance plans to ensure cost is not a barrier to recovery.

Spero Health’s Central Indiana medical director, Dr. Darrin Mangiacarne, who has an extensive and distinguished background focused on substance use disorders, treatment and prevention, will be the lead physician at this new location. Double board-certified in family medicine and addiction medicine, Dr. Mangiacarne was the co-chair of the Indiana Attorney General’s Task Force and is the current president of the Indiana Society of Addiction Medicine.

According to the CDC, Indiana saw some of the nation’s biggest spikes in drug-related overdose deaths in 2017 as more than 1,800 people died. That is a 37% increase from the year before and a 75% increase the last 10 years. The state has expanded resources to address the epidemic, and leaders from Spero Health believe they can be part of the solution as there is a considerable need for high-quality treatment providers locally.

“Traditionally, addiction treatment services have been fragmented, and not patient centered. Options have been limited because someone needing help may have to go to multiple places, and in some cases even travel to costly residential programs. Spero Health changes that by bringing all of the necessary services needed in recovery under one roof, giving individuals local access to transformative treatment with the goal of sustained long-term recovery,” said Steve Priest, CEO of Spero Health. “Individuals need fast access to coordinated and integrated treatment, and care needs to be individualized focusing on disease management rather than a certain time frame,” Priest added.

Dr. Mangiacarne said, “The time to act is now. Recovery can be an attainable goal for people who seek treatment. As more people become aware of the life-saving, community-based option Spero Health offers through utilization of medication, recovery support services and counseling, the greater chance we have of stabilizing the epidemic locally.”

Dr. Mangiacarne added, “Spero Health strives to engage patients where they are in their journey and personalize the program to meet their specific needs so they can stabilize, allowing for interventions to support sustained recovery efforts.”
