WAREHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Smithers Viscient, a global contract research organization (CRO), has promoted Larry Brewer to the role of North American Technical Director and named Glen (Gus) Zieske to succeed Brewer as the company’s Director of Avian and Wildlife Toxicology. Zieske will be based in the company’s Snow Camp, North Carolina facility while Brewer will locate to provide technical leadership for all Smithers Viscient locations.

As North American Technical Director, Brewer will provide leadership for large and complex programs and will be involved with service line startups and special projects. He will lend his deep expertise and insight to all of Smithers Viscient’s service divisions, including chemistry, ecotoxicology, environmental fate and metabolism, consulting and more. Brewer accepts the new role following more than 16 years at Smithers Viscient. Prior to his time at Smithers, Brewer served for 15 years as a research biologist for the Washington Department of Wildlife where he helped establish and develop the Institute of Wildlife Toxicology at Western Washington University. He holds a BS in Wildlife Biology from Iowa State University and an MS in Wildlife Science from the University of Washington.

Taking on the role of Director of Avian and Wildlife Toxicology is Glen (Gus) Zieske. Zieske comes to Smithers Viscient with 25 years of ecotoxicology and contract research organization (CRO) experience, most recently serving as the director of the aquatic toxicology laboratory at C-K Associates based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Zieske worked 10 years at C-K Associates in roles of increasing responsibility. Prior to his time at C-K, Zieske worked for other CROs and spent time at the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries as a biologist. Zieske received his undergraduate degree in Fisheries Biology from LSU.
