Smith & Nephew plc announces that on 17 October 2007 it purchased 220,000
ordinary shares of US$0.20 each at a price of 597.4146 pence per share. The
purchased shares will be held as treasury shares.
Following the above purchase, Smith & NFephew plc holds 41,550,000 ordinary
shares in treasury, and has 904,981,508 ordinary shares in issue (excluding
treasury shares).
