ANDOVER, Mass., Sept. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Smith & Nephew (NYSE: SNN) (LSE: SN) today announced the launch of its innovative, single-use DYONICS PLATINUM Series Shaver Blades which deliver superior arthroscopic resection, debris evacuation and sharpness.
The removal of tissue, cartilage and bone is a fundamental component of any arthroscopic repair procedure. The more precise and efficient surgeons are with their technique, the better chance they have of preserving the maximum amount of healthy tissue -- critical to joint stability and to delivering a successful surgical outcome.
The first in a family of eighteen blades to incorporate our new PLATINUM technology are the DYONICS INCISOR Plus PLATINUM 4.5 mm Blade and the DYONICS BONECUTTER PLATINUM 5.5 mm Blade. Each is designed to deliver best-in-class performance for specific arthroscopy procedures.
- The DYONICS INCISOR Plus PLATINUM 4.5 mm Blade is designed to address knee procedures including anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction and complex meniscectomies - of which 2.5 million are performed annually. The INCISOR Plus PLATINUM Blade incorporates a precision sharpened, tooth-to-tooth design, allowing it to grab frayed scar tissue or cut thick targeted tendon tissue more efficiently than other competitive blades.
- The DYONICS BONECUTTER PLATINUM 5.5 mm Blade is a multifunctional device designed to be used for subacromial decompression procedures in the shoulder and ACL reconstruction in the knee due to its ultra-aggressive resection of thick tissue and hard bone.
“The INCISOR Plus PLATINUM Blade provides the user with the ability to perform aggressive but controlled, precision soft tissue resection. These blades are a joy to use and take soft tissue resection to a new level.” said Charles Brown Jr., MD, Abu Dhabi Knee & Sports Medicine Centre, UAE.
Sean Gallimore, Vice President of Arthroscopic Technology Marketing for Smith & Nephew commented, “As an innovator in arthroscopic resection, our goal is to continuously evolve performance and provide world-class solutions. Choosing the right blade is a very important clinical decision which is why we focus on incorporating leading-edge design, technology and materials. Our new DYONICS PLATINUM Series Shaver Blades are designed to raise the bar for resection performance and deliver superior results for surgeons, and ultimately their patients.” News
The DYONICS brand helped pioneer mechanical resection for arthroscopy more than 30 years ago. Since that time, Smith & Nephew has introduced a wide array of technological innovations to the DYONICS product line in support of new arthroscopic techniques resulting in the most extensive portfolio of shaver blades and burrs in the industry.
