Sigma-Aldrich Corporation Wins Federal Trade Commission Confirmation of Anticompetitive Ruling Against Corning Incorporated

The Federal Trade Commission issued a final order Thursday settling charges that Corning Inc.’s proposed acquisition of the Discovery Labware Division owned by Becton, Dickinson and Co. would have been anticompetitive. Under a settlement with the FTC, Corning will work with Sigma-Aldrich to provide the St. Louis-based life science company with assistance in manufacturing tissue culture treated (TCT) multi-well plates, dishes and flasks used in cell culture applications to create competition in the market, according to a statement released by the FTC. The final order came after a public comment period, which ended Nov. 30, and was a unanimous 5-0 vote.
