TUCSON, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Research Corporation Technologies (RCT) has granted Biosound Esaote Inc. a nonexclusive license to pioneering patents owned by RCT that broadly cover ultrasound tissue harmonic imaging (THI). Biosound Esaote in Indianapolis, Ind., is a major medical imaging company that specializes in high-performance ultrasound systems. Founded in 1979 as Biodynamics by Indianapolis-based Boehringer Mannheim, the company was the first to market a vascular ultrasound system. In 1983, the Anderson Group of Bloomfield, Conn., acquired Biodynamics and changed the name to Biosound. In 1984, the Anderson Group acquired the cardiac ultrasound division of Honeywell and merged it with Biosound. In 1990, Italian-based Esaote acquired full ownership of Biosound, giving the company the support of an international leader in the development of medical imaging devices. Today, Biosound Esaote is one of the largest ultrasound companies in the United States.
