Cambridge, 11 August 2016 ... Repositive, a software company developing novel tools to improve access to human genomic research data, has hired Manuel Corpas as Scientific Lead.
Manuel has done pioneering work in exploring his personal genome, through direct to consumer genomic testing and online international collaboration. He crowdfunded the DNA sequencing for both himself and his family, and he was the first to publish the complete collection of genomic data for his family online as Open Access. He was also the first to crowdsource the analysis of his family genome from international experts and the resulting article “Crowdsourced Analysis of Family Genome” was among the Biomed Central most influential articles in 2015.
Manuel, who joins Repositive from TGAC (The Genome Analysis Centre), will be responsible for building the scientific community around the Repositive platform via a series of workshops and key event presentations.
Manuel was previously Project Leader for plant and animal genomes at TGAC, and his earlier roles included Sanger, EBI (European Bioinformatics Institute) and the Spanish National Bioinformatics Centre. Alongside his role at TGAC, Manuel is also the ELIXIR-UK Technical Coordinator and board director of the International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB).
Manuel helped develop DECIPHER, a web based database for clinical diagnosis and management of patients with congenital abnormalities. In addition, he set up the EnDICTION systems biology database, which is used to integrate computer-generated predictions from the ENFIN network of excellence.
Manuel joins Repositive as the company prepares to launch its updated platform to accelerate user growth. The upgraded platform will expand the range of data available to its users to over 1 million datasets, and will also include datasets for specific areas of research in the form of data collections.
