After reaching a record high in 2014 profits, the biotechnology start-up, Triangle Research Labs LLC (TRL), knocked earnings expectations out of the park by achieving their biggest sales month ever. The LLC attributes June’s success to favorable relationships with pharma, clinical research, academia, and government professionals.
Human Cryopreserved hepatocytes accounted for 80 percent of June’s profits, which Matt Sherman, Executive Director of TRL, believes is directly linked to the product’s reputation in the industry. “Our lots are held to the highest quality standards, both quantitatively and qualitatively,” said Sherman. “Induction lots are characterized for mRNA expression and specific activity, to ensure they meet regulatory and industry standards for fold CYP induction. Our strategy is to provide the highest quality hepatocytes with a high level of service and support and accessible pricing.”
The strategy identified by Sherman appears to be working. TRL is on track to significantly increase 2014’s total sales by the end of this year. The company plans to propel its success by refining its digital strategy and continuing to develop the efficiency of its laboratory. “My goal for the Operations Team is to produce our high-quality hepatic products as efficiently as possible,” said Rob Kaiser, Director of Operations. “We currently have 2 full-time Production Scientists, Bethany Mextorf and Sarah El-Halabi, and a full-time Lab Manager, Maggie McIntyre. I don’t foresee the team growing much larger than that. Keeping the team small minimizes overhead, which allows us to pass those savings along to our clients,” said Kaiser.
