New eQo 1-Step ToughMix kit features a warm-start reverse transcriptase in a single-tube master mix format that is conveniently shipped, stored and set up at room temperature
BEVERLY, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Quantabio, a leading provider of robust DNA and RNA amplification reagents for the most demanding molecular testing and life science research applications, today announced the launch of the eQo 1-Step ToughMix kit, the first product from its third-generation line of advanced reagents for highly sensitive and reproducible PCR and qPCR applications. The new eQo (pronounced “eco”) product line comes in a lyophilized, bead-based, and eco-friendly format that is conveniently shipped, stored and set up at ambient temperature. This eliminates the need for dry ice, significantly reducing the shipping footprint and its harmful impact on the environment.
“The new eQo product line is the culmination of years of research and development and ongoing commitment to delivering innovative, high-performing products that reduce our carbon footprint and improve sustainability,” said David Schuster, Head of R&D at Quantabio. “The new kit includes the latest ToughMix chemistry that further enhances assay sensitivity and performance, all in a more convenient and environmentally friendly package. Our customers can now break the cold chain and eliminate all of the costs and logistical challenges associated with dry ice.”
Featuring the company’s latest advances in ToughMix chemistry, enzyme engineering and formulation optimization, the eQo 1-Step ToughMix was designed to deliver superior assay performance for a wide range of challenging starting materials with common PCR inhibitors. Compared to currently available products, the new kit is capable of supporting five-plex assays and has consistently demonstrated improved yields with higher amplification rates and lower quantification cycle values for a variety of RNA assays. When used with a multiplexed COVID/flu assay, eQo 1-Step ToughMix was able to detect down to two copies of virus, evidenced by a strong amplification signal, resulting in up to a 10-fold increase compared to other premium 1-Step kits. The ability to reliably make a positive call at such low copy numbers is a key differentiator of the new kit’s technology and chemistry combination.
The eQo 1-Step ToughMix kit was designed to improve the user experience with a simple workflow that accelerates project turnaround times. New enzymes and chemistry enable specific and efficient conversion of even highly structured RNAs at temperatures between 55 degrees and 60 degrees Celsius. The highly processive and novel warm-start reverse transcriptase allows scientists to run qPCR and PCR experiments without ice either right on the bench or out in the field. Once the lyophilized eQo beads are rehydrated, the 4x concentrated master mix is stable for one year at -20 degrees Celsius. The kit was created to withstand multiple freeze and thaw cycles, and the single-tube format facilitates easy reaction setup and prevents potential cross-contamination. The compact and recyclable package can be shipped and stored for up to one year at room temperature.
“The sensitivity, scalability and sustainability of the new eQo 1-Step ToughMix makes it ideal for broad use, both in research and applied markets, and in the laboratory or in the field,” said Heather Meehan, PhD, General Manager of Quantabio. “With our eQo product line, Quantabio offers our customers the flexibility to use our beads as a bulk master mix or as a customized formulation dispensed in a single bead configuration.”
Quantabio offers the eQo 1-Step ToughMix reagents in two packaging configurations of 100 and 1,000 reactions. In the future, the company will add additional eQo products that can be customized for customers looking to create their own assays.
