Prenatek, Inc. Announces New CEO

DUBLIN, CA--(MARKET WIRE)--Jul 14, 2008 -- Prenatek™, Inc., an early stage developer of innovative products for detection and management of fetal well-being, today announced that Dennis J. Meister has been named president and chief executive officer, effective immediately. Meister, who brings more than 25 years of experience in leading product and market development of medical devices serving Women’s Health, will also serve on the Prenatek Board of Directors.

“Dennis has a proven track record in creating and establishing product leadership positions in the Ob/Gyn markets,” said Adnan Shennib, founder and chairman of Prenatek. “He brings deep knowledge and experience in perinatal medicine, and has the managerial skill set to lead Prenatek through successful product and market launches. We are excited to have Dennis join our team.”

Prenatek is developing the world’s first disposable “smart patch” for continuous fetal monitoring. This new approach employs passive miniature sensors embedded in a low cost, extended wear patch, for safe and comfortable monitoring and detection of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns indicative of fetal distress. The smart patch will offer long-term fetal monitoring at a fraction of the current cost, with unparalleled convenience, and with sufficient diagnostic capabilities for the obstetrician to detect early signs of fetal distress. For others with normal pregnancy, this type of monitoring provides much needed assurance for the mother.

“Prenatek has a unique product vision and technologies with the potential to improve the obstetrical standard-of-care while concurrently reducing the overall cost-of-care in at-risk pregnancies,” said Meister. “We also have the opportunity to provide families with needed reassurance during normal pregnancies. Our near term focus is on securing the investment needed to realize our exciting product vision.”

Meister began his career in Ob/Gyn clinical applications with ADR Ultrasound, the pioneer and market leader that established real-time ultrasound as the Ob/Gyn standard-of-care. ADR later merged into ATL, now part of Philips Medical. Meister subsequently joined Acuson Corporation and led the company’s entrance into the emerging High-Risk Ob/Gyn segment, quickly achieving the sustained market leadership position. While with Acuson, he held a variety of senior management positions in Product Marketing, Clinical Marketing, Product Development Engineering, International Marketing, Strategic Planning, Business Development, Product Portfolio Management, and ultimately General Manager of the flagship Acuson Sequoia(TM) Ultrasound Imaging Platform. Upon the acquisition of Acuson by Siemens Corporation in 2000, Meister held various senior management positions and he also led the formation of a new organization focused on establishing Siemens as the global leader in Ob/Gyn clinical applications. Meister holds a degree in Biomedical Engineering from Marquette University and completed graduate studies in Finance and Marketing at Seattle University.
