SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - January 07, 2009) - Persistent Systems, one of the leading providers of Outsourced Product Development (OPD) services, announces it has been named a cancer Biomedical Informatics Grid® (caBIG®) Support Service Provider by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). caBIG Support Service Providers are independent entities that are approved by NCI as meeting specific criteria for performance of support services related to caBIG needs. Services rendered by caBIG Support Service Providers to their clients are established under separate business arrangements organized by and between the service provider and its clients.
Persistent Systems has a history of contribution to the development of software for the caBIG program, a standards-based nationwide network that provides a grid infrastructure, data repositories, interoperable software, and policy guidelines to enable data sharing and collaboration across the biomedical research community, with the goal of accelerating the realization of personalized medicine.
The caBIG program has licensed Persistent as a part of its effort to provide support for greater involvement and adoption by cancer centers, hospitals and researchers nationwide. As one of the original industry partners of caBIG, Persistent intimately understands the program’s tools, infrastructure and processes.
Persistent has been committed to the NCI caBIG program for several years, investing more than 700 person-months in the development of seven different caBIG applications and the customization of more than a dozen installations of caTissue at institutions across the US and Europe. Persistent has also been instrumental in delivering caBIG support services to the cancer centers involved in the Pilot Enterprise Adoption Program.
“The NCI’s caBIG project is critical to accelerating cancer research,” said Dr. Rakesh Nagarajan, Assistant Professor, Pathology and Immunology and Director of the Center for Biomedical Informatics at Washington University. “The information network brings the cancer community together like never before, and has enabled us to share our informatics platforms and applications with labs around the world.”
Persistent is licensed as a caBIG Support Service Provider licensed in all four categories of support: Help Desk Support; Adaptation and Enhancement of caBIG-Compatible Software Applications; Deployment Support for caBIG Software Applications; and Documentation and Training Materials and Services. Persistent specializes in the following:
-- caTissue support services -- caBIG application development and local customizations -- Porting legacy non-caBIG applications to make them caBIG compatible -- Deployment and maintenance of caBIG applications -- Legacy data migration -- Integration of caBIG applications with other IT systems -- Onsite and webinar based demos and trainings -- Development training materials like eLearning portals, user manuals and guides
“The NCI has worked for four years under the premise that the right software can overcome technological barriers contributing to the information gap and help ease academic constraints,” said Srikanth Adiga, Director of caBIG competency, Persistent Systems. “We are very proud of our engagement with caBIG and excited to be named as a caBIG support service provider.”
“Persistent will continue to combine its Life Sciences and technology expertise to fuel widespread adoption of the caBIG applications, furthering valuable cancer research and innovation,” added Dr. Anand Deshpande, CEO of Persistent Systems.
