Women put on significantly less weight if they use nicotine gum to stop smoking rather than willpower alone, according to Pfizer-backed research released on Friday. The company, which markets the Nicorette smoking cessation brand, said a study of 253 women smokers showed that those who used little or no gum had put on 3.4 kg on average 12 weeks after they stopped smoking. That compared with an average increase of only 1.3kg in women who used nicotine gum.
