Minnesota’s tally of Fortune 500 companies took a hit in the magazine’s latest ranking — we have 17 Fortune 500 companies now — but not because there are fewer big companies here.
Instead, the change is a result of Medtronic (NYSE: MDT) moving its legal headquarters from Fridley to Dublin as part of its 2014 merger with Covidien. As the Washington Post reports, Fortune wants to keep the list to U.S.-based companies.
