October 6, 2010 -- Dr. Crispin Taylor, the executive director of the American Society of Plant Biologists (ASPB), will speak at Montgomery College’s Rockville Campus on Thursday, October 14 from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. Dr. Taylor’s talk, “Why Study Plants,” will address the growing importance and impact of plant biology. Free and open to the public, the talk will take place in the Technical Center, Room 136, located at 51 Mannakee Street, Rockville, Md.
Plants are the primary producers in the vast majority of Earth’s ecosystems, and almost all life depends on plants. Nearly all of the energy that powers our bodies – and much of the energy that drives our societies – comes via plants.
Dr. Taylor will talk about the many vital reasons to study and understand plants. Building on his own experiences, he will share information on career paths in plant biology and science. He will end with a look at the many roles played by professional scientific organizations like ASPB in improving education, enhancing public understanding of science and fostering diversity, discovery and innovation.
