Metabolic Syndrome Linked to Kidney Disease, Cleveland Clinic Study

People with metabolic syndrome are at increased risk for kidney disease, a new study suggests. Metabolic syndrome refers to the presence of three or more of the following health threats: high blood pressure, high blood sugar, low good cholesterol, excess fat in the waist/abdomen, and elevated levels of fatty acids. It was known that people with metabolic syndrome are at increased risk for diabetes, heart disease, stroke and premature death. This study adds kidney disease to that list.
