babyLance infant heel incision device logoMediPurpose® recently received approval of its application for patent protection of its babyLance® infant heel incision device from the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore.
The IPOS issued MediPurpose® a Certificate of Grant of Patent number 167188.
The infant heel incision device’s patent approval is currently pending in several other countries.
Launched last July, babyLance® is a single-use heel incision device utilized to obtain a blood sample from the heels of newborn (babyLance® BLN) and preemie (babyLance® BLP) infants.
The IPOS patent protects the unique design of the babyLance® infant heel incision device which earned it a U.S. Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance with sharps prevention indications—the first infant heel stick to earn such a distinction. These sharps prevention indications include:
A locking mechanism to prevent accidental activation of the device.
A housing that conceals the blade before and after the device is used.
An internal spring that automatically retracts the blade after use.
A stop feature that disables the device after a single use.
