With the World Series tied 2-2 and the teams gearing up for a big game at Busch Stadium tonight, the leaders of St. Louis’ and Boston’s biotech clusters have decided to raise the stakes with a friendly wager.
If the Red Sox win, Donn Rubin, President & CEO of BioSTL will send a case of local craft beer and some St. Louis barbecue to Robert K. Coughlin, President & CEO of MassBio. If the Cardinals win, Coughlin will send Rubin some of Boston’s finest “chowdah” and will introduce him to a few Boston venture capitalists.
“If by some chance the Cardinals squeak by with a World Series win, which I can’t imagine at this point, I’ll be happy to share some of Boston’s best assets - VCs and clam chowder - with Donn,” said Coughlin.
“These two teams and their cities have rich histories and lots to brag about,” said Rubin. “I’d love to share our beer, barbeque, and biotech. But if the World Series ends how I think it will, Bob will have wait to get his beer and BBQ next time he’s in St. Louis!”
