MAQUET Moves Manufacturing of Cardiovascular Products to Award-Winning New Jersey Facility

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- MAQUET Cardiovascular LLC today announced that it will move manufacturing of its endoscopic vessel harvesting and clampless beating heart bypass product lines to its Wayne, New Jersey plant. The MAQUET facility in New Jersey has been recognized for its efficiency and quality standards for implanted medical devices by being named one of the top ten plants in North America by Industry Week in 2005.

These products are currently manufactured in a Boston Scientific Corporation facility in Puerto Rico and are used during coronary artery bypass surgery, when the surgeon removes part of a healthy blood vessel from the patient and uses it to create a new blood flow path in the heart, known as “revascularization.”

“We are grateful to the existing team in Puerto Rico,” states Patrick Walsh, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of MAQUET Cardiovascular LLC. “However, from a resource management perspective, moving manufacturing to a wholly owned MAQUET facility is in the best interest of the company, to support its expanding United States footprint and fulfill the global needs of the newly created MAQUET Cardiovascular division.”

The plan is to transfer as many employees as possible from the existing facility in Puerto Rico to the plant in New Jersey.

The move will take place in stages over the next 18 months and is expected to be completed by the end of 2009. MAQUET customers can rest assured that they will be able to continue to rely on the same high-quality products from the award-winning New Jersey facility as they experienced with the Puerto Rico plant.
