J-Pac Expands Manufacturing Capabilities With Doyen Thin Film Converting System

Mar 25, 2009 – Somersworth, New Hampshire. J-PAC LLC, a medical device contract manufacturer and packager, has expanded its manufacturing capabilities and increased capacity with a Doyen Thin Film Converting and Platen Sealing System.

The system supplied by J-PAC’s sister company Doyen Medipharm is capable of converting edible film into oral strips, which dissolve rapidly on the tongue and have become popular as OTC Pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals and homeopathic medicated strips. Doyen’s Thin Film Converting line operates up to 4 lanes and slits and cuts hundreds of strips per minute. The strips are spaced out for platen sealing into four-side sealed single-dose sachets, which can be marked with batch numbers and expiry dates for tracking purposes.

The system operates in an environmentally controlled cleanroom, enabling J-PAC to efficiently process delicate, brittle films and materials, maximizing material utilization to 85 per cent or better.

The thin film converting system with integrated platen sealing module is not the first cooperation between J-PAC and Doyen: the contract manufacturer already operates several Doyen rotary four-side seal machines, packaging products like wound care dressings, pads and diagnostic strips, as well as two Doyen thermoformers. Other contract services offered by J-PAC include medical device assembly, implantable textile concerting and packaging, RF sealing & welding, ultrasonic welding, heat sealing, custom tray design and plastic fabrication, among others.

J-Pac and Doyen Medipharm, although originally two separate companies, are now operating as one organization. “This is the right time to tap the full potential of the synergy between the two businesses”, commented Richard Eagling the new CEO of both J-Pac and Doyen, “with the ability to offer both contract manufacturing and medical manufacturing machinery we can provide a complete service to medical, diagnostic and pharmaceutical companies in delivering their products to market. This covers the whole product life cycle: from product or packaging design and development through clinical trial samples to large-scale production of final product. For the latter we provide fully outsourced production capabilities and complete manufacturing equipment for in-house production depending on the customer’s requirements. Indeed, for various reasons some companies use Doyen machines in-house and also take advantage of J-Pac’s contract manufacturing services.”

J-PAC LLC is a contract manufacturer and packager specialising in Web & Sheet Converting, Medical Device Assembly, Implantable Textiles Manufacturing and Medical Packaging Services. The company is ISO 13485 certified & FDA registered.
