A record number of takeovers in the health care industry took place in the second quarter with SeraCare Life Sciences (NASDAQ: SRLS) being acquired and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ) reportedly pursuing Oncosec Medical (NASDAQ: ONCS) with Pfizer (NYSE: PFE) already after IcaGen Inc (NASDAQ: ICGN). Health care is one of the three main areas for mergers and acqusitions, the other two being technology and industry. There were 243 Healthcare mergers and acquisitions in the second quarter of 2011, worth more than $73.7 billion, according to a new report by Irving Levin Associates. These corporate transaction were a 6 percent uptick from the first quarter of 2011, which contained a total of 229 transactions. In 2010, 233 deals were reported.in the second quarter.
