Scottish Biomedical is the first company in the world to offer the sodium channel Nav1.9 for use as a drug discovery tool. This adds to the most comprehensive ion channel drug discovery service provider in the market. Nav1.9 is a vital component of the pain response and represents an as yet unexploited target for novel drugs in the anti-pain area. Scottish Biomedical is delighted to be able to offer this previously unavailable human ion channel. This product will be launched in Tokyo on February 19th 2008 and worldwide shortly thereafter.
Sodium channel function is involved in many disease and therapeutic areas, including epilepsy, pain and cardiac dysfunction. Scottish Biomedical currently has Nav1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8 and 1.9 available and Nav1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 in late stage development. All ion channels are available in HEK cells and are co-expressed with the beta subunit. These cells lines are available for purchase, or we can carry out high throughput screening and profiling (selectivity testing) of your compounds in-house. Scottish Biomedical also has electrophysiology in house and can offer this in combination with calcium imaging.
The entire sodium panel (Nav1.1 to Nav1.9) will be available from April 1st 2008. In addition to our sodium panel, Scottish Biomedical also has a range of other ion channel expressing cell lines available, including KCNQ2/3, Cav2.2 and P2X. We offer a custom development service enabling clients to choose the cell line, ion channel and subunits of choice.
