The Portal provides the most comprehensive and up-to-date labor market information available about the U.S. biotechnology industry, as well as access to key international biotechnology labor market information. It offers innovative technology solutions that enable online networking, interactive data dissemination, and real-time user contributions and participation. The Portal was developed through a grant awarded under the President’s High Growth Job Training Initiative, as implemented by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration. It was developed by the San Diego Workforce Partnership, Inc., (Workforce Partnership) in association with BioSpace.com.
The Portal’s contents are targeted to biotechnology employers, employees, and educators, as well as students and labor market researchers. The Portal contains information on:
Biotechnology websites.
The Portal design offers the latest in web technology with innovative features such as e-subscriptions, online networking, RSS feeds, and a customized calendar for events, as well as interactive data dissemination and real-time user contributions and participation.
The Workforce Partnership developed the structure and contents of the Biotech Work Portal with the help and guidance of a National Biotechnology Advisory Committee, composed of representatives from biotechnology industry, biotechnology educational programs, and workforce development organizations, as well as labor market information professionals from across the country.
BiotechWork.org is inviting other biotechnology associations, employers, educators, government agencies, or labor market researchers, as well as interested individuals to register at the site to take full advantage of this free public service. Biotech Work Portal Partners can contribute content and increase the site’s value to the biotechnology community while promoting their own organizations. Partners can create and manage organizational profiles, and add labor market reports, educational program information, special events, biotechnology websites, and more.
According to Larry Fitch, president and CEO of the Workforce Partnership, “because the Portal is designed to update its labor market information on a regular basis, it is set to become an essential resource for biotechnology workforce information.“
“BioSpace is pleased to partner with the Workforce Partnership in the development of the Biotech Work Portal,” said Wes Crews, BioSpace CEO. “In addition to providing relevant content and helping with distribution and marketing for the Portal, we look forward to using it to deliver an innovative career center for the international biotech community.”
