BURLINGTON, Mass., Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The live case demonstrations at TCT 2007 will for the first time feature the use of a novel NIR imaging system recently developed by InfraReDx, Inc., a privately-held medical device company. The Company is also sponsoring a Breakfast Symposium to provide additional information about this new device to the cardiology community.
The investigational technology will also be demonstrated at Booth #6013 in the Emerging Technologies arena and in the new, “Cath Lab of the Future” located in the center of the TCT Exhibit Hall. Additionally, the Company will sponsor several investigator presentations on the detection of lipid-rich coronary plaque using near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy technology.
Breakfast Symposium with Dr. James A. Goldstein, Dr. Gregg W. Stone, Dr. Sergio Waxman, and Dr. James E. Muller
InfraReDx will be sponsoring a Breakfast Symposium entitled “Beyond Angiography: Near-Infrared Spectroscopy and Other Methods for Plaque Characterization” on the morning of Wednesday, October 24, 2007 in Room 144A, Level 1 of the Washington Convention Center. Breakfast will be served at 6:30 am, and the symposium will start at 7:00 am. Presenters include: Dr. James A. Goldstein (Beaumont Hospital), Dr. Gregg W. Live Case featuring NIR spectroscopy

Craig Gardner, Ph.D., Director of Algorithm Development at InfraReDx will present the results of an autopsy study testing the ability of the NIR system to characterize plaques in human coronary artery autopsy specimens. The title of Dr. Gardner’s talk is “Detection of Lipid-Rich Coronary Plaques through Blood in Autopsy Specimens with a Novel, Catheter-Based, Near-Infrared Spectroscopy System”. It will be presented on Saturday, October 20 at 4:28 pm in Room 150B.
Sergio Waxman, M.D., Associate Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine and Director of Interventional Cardiovascular Research at the Lahey Clinic will make a presentation on the results of use of the NIR device in patients. The title of Dr. Waxman’s talk is “Near Infrared Spectroscopy, Detection of Lipid Rich Plaque: Preclinical Validation and Human Experiences (SPECTACL).” It will be presented on Sunday, October 21 at 11:24 am in Room 150B as part of the “Vulnerable Plaque, Pathophysiology, Detection, and Therapeutic Intervention, Part 2" session.
