SAN FRANCISCO, AMIA MEDInfo 2004, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- MICROMEDEX, a part of The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC), the leader in information solutions for scientific and healthcare professionals, today introduced InfoButton Access, the first hosted application that delivers trusted, clinical reference information directly from any Electronic Medical Record (EMR), Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) or other health information system (HIS) applications at the simple click of a button. InfoButton Access improves clinical decisions by providing quick and easy access to MICROMEDEX drug, disease and patient education, along with the ability to link to detailed clinical references. The InfoButton Access application is available now for HIS system vendors to begin integrating within their applications.
Busy clinicians don't have time to search for data or read lengthy publications," said J. Marc Overhage, Associate Professor of Medicine and Investigator, Regenstrief Institute, a participant in the InfoButton Access beta program. "By giving clinicians quick access to carefully curated, structured knowledge, we can greatly impact their ability to look up information or confirm best treatment practices."
InfoButton Access simplifies the process of searching for clinical reference information. Access to the MICROMEDEX clinical reference information is made easy through integration with existing HIS applications. The HIS application gathers pertinent information, such as patient age, gender and identifiers of the drug or problem. The HIS then sends a request to MICROMEDEX using the InfoButton Access application. InfoButton Access immediately responds with detailed information matching the query from the MICROMEDEX drug, disease and patient education databases. Clinicians can also link to more specific clinical reference information easily, through a drill-down function. InfoButton Access saves clinicians' time and offers peace of mind by quickly confirming their knowledge and enabling them to answer critical patient questions more accurately and frequently.
InfoButton Access leverages an organization's existing clinical information system investments and seamlessly integrates with MICROMEDEX database subscriptions. InfoButton Access is hosted on the existing MICROMEDEX server where the information is frequently updated to reflect the most current research and data about recently approved medications. InfoButton Access currently offers access to two clinical references databases, DrugPoints(R) System and Disease Information Briefs, and two Patient Education databases, CareNotes(TM) System and DrugNotes Systems. Integration with additional MICROMEDEX databases is planned for future versions of InfoButton Access.
"In the fast paced hospital environment, clinicians need to have access to critical information at their fingertips," said Jay Katzen, Vice President, Marketing and Product Development, at Thomson MICROMEDEX. "Our databases have been relied upon by hospital pharmacists for many years. Now, with minimal effort through InfoButton Access, clinicians can access this information, providing them with added confidence that their prescribed treatments are consistent and safe with the existing medications being taken by their patients."
Pricing and Availability
The InfoButton Access application is available now for health information system vendors to begin integrating within their applications. Once HIS vendors have completed the simple integration process, MICROMEDEX clinical reference content subscribers will be able to use InfoButton Access for a nominal access fee.
