Even as seed funding for medical device firms is tougher than ever to come by and IPOs are scarce, the state’s medical device industry group has something to brag about at its annual meeting today: The number of companies has doubled over the past two decades.

MassMEDIC kicked off its Annual Conference at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center with the news that in the 20 years since it was formed, the number of medical device companies in Massachusetts has gone from 204 to 436.

Gov. Charlie Baker spoke at the meeting about the state’s digital health care initiative and life sciences business climate.
