Hemoglobin A1c Can Predict Type 2 Diabetes in Women

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Among healthy middle-aged and older women, the hemoglobin A1c level -- a measure of blood sugar control -- is an independent predictor of type 2 diabetes, a study shows.Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) is a marker of cumulative exposure to glucose (sugar) over the preceding 2- to 3-month period, Dr. Aruna D. Pradhan, of Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, and colleagues explain in the American Journal of Medicine.
