CHICAGO, Sept. 21, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The Healthiest Employers® awards program, administered by Springbuk, unveiled their listing of the “100 Healthiest Workplaces in America” Thursday night at the 4th annual Fitbit Captivate conference in Chicago, Illinois, which brings together leaders in employee wellness, healthcare and digital health. Winning companies ranged in size from 19 employees to over 150,000 employees, spanning dozens of industries.
UnitedHealthcare took home the top spot in this year’s ranking. “It is an honor to be included as one of the top healthiest workplaces in the country,” said Eric Johnson, CFO of UnitedHealthcare. “UnitedHealthcare takes great pride in promoting our health and wellness programs to all the people we serve by engaging in wellness events in our communities and supporting our mission of helping people live healthier lives.”
North Carolina’s Wake County Government, OrthoCarolina, Norton Healthcare, and SmartPractice rounded out the top five winners. Other notable organizations recognized include Humana, GE Appliances, HP, BP, and CVS Health.
The national award culminates the conclusion of the year long wellness awards program that Healthiest Employers hosts in over 40 cities. In markets such as Portland, Phoenix, and San Francisco companies are recognized for their efforts and investments in the lives of their employees.
This awards program is administered by Springbuk, a health intelligence company focused on empowering employers to reduce healthcare costs. The Healthiest 100 submission process involved completing an online assessment to determine each organization’s Healthiest Employer Index (HEI). From there, applicants completed a more comprehensive and qualitative survey describing their wellness programs. Applicants were judged on their vision for their wellness program, company culture, expertise, population health initiatives, feedback process, metrics tracked, and technological prowess.
“This year, we fielded a record-level of applications for this award, and one takeaway from these applications stood above everything else,” said Phil Daniels, co-founder of the Healthiest Employers program. “Organizations that use a health analytics system are two and a half times more likely to be able to track changes in healthcare spending based on wellness programming. This leads to these organizations showing a 64% higher return on investment than their static reporting counterparts.”
