AUDUBON, Pa., June 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Globus Medical, Inc., the largest privately-held spinal implant manufacturer in the world, today announced the introduction of the CITADEL(TM) Anterior Lumbar Plating System. The system has been implanted successfully in approximately 40 surgeries to date.
"There are several key factors that differentiate CITADEL from anything else in the marketplace today," said Larry Binder, Group Engineering Manager, Globus Medical. "CITADEL is a comprehensive system that can be used throughout the entire range of the lumbar spine, not just the lumbosacral junction. The sacral plate is specially designed to match the curvature of the sacrum. The plate provides large visualization windows, and the system utilizes both fixed and variable screws."
The CITADEL system is the 26th complete system Globus Medical has developed in the past four years, and the sixth new system announced in 2007.
"Our product development engine is firing on all cylinders," said David Paul, CEO, Globus Medical. "Not only have we created tremendous value for patients, customers, employees, suppliers and shareholders, we are well positioned to remain at the forefront of spine technology for years to come."
CITADEL is another example of Globus Medical's uniquely superior approach to product development. This product development engine squeezes inefficiency out of the development cycle by utilizing parallel processes to anticipate, identify and correct potential issues early, enabling Globus to simultaneously innovate across the spectrum of fusion, motion preservation, MIS and biologics.
"CITADEL provides the spine surgeon with a stand-alone anterior tension band that is not only simple to implant, but also assures the strength and stability required in the lumbar and lumbosacral spine," stated neurosurgeon Robert Flandry, MD, Spartanburg Neurological Institute in Spartanburg, S.C. "The user-friendly instrumentation, the straight-forward screw locking mechanism, and the comprehensive range of implants, will minimize the challenges encountered in anterior lumbar fusions."
