NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 9, 2006--Genentech, the California-based biotech company, tops FORTUNE's ninth annual "100 Best Companies to Work For" list. The company's year-end revenues should come to $6.6 billion, according to Wall Street estimates. Genentech is "the brightest star in a promising industry that has chronically underachieved," says FORTUNE senior writer Betsy Morris in her accompanying story on the company. "Genentech's secret, anybody here will tell you, is its culture. And that is what has propelled the company to the top of this year's 100 Best Companies to Work For," says Morris. Employees there overwhelmingly believe their jobs have meaning, that their CEO wants their feedback, and that work/life balance is more than just a buzzword. The list and related stories appears in the January 23 issue of FORTUNE, available on newsstands January 16 and at www.fortune.com on January 9.
