Genentech, Inc. Again Named One Of FORTUNE’s 100 Best Companies To Work For

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Jan. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - Genentech, Inc. announced today that it has been named by FORTUNE magazine as one of the "100 Best Companies to Work For" for the ninth consecutive year. This year Genentech is ranked number two on the list. The complete list of companies will appear in the January 22 edition of the magazine, available on newsstands January 15 and on http://www.fortune.com today.

"We are pleased to once again be named to FORTUNE magazine's list of the 100 Best Companies to Work For," said Arthur D. Levinson, Ph.D., Genentech chairman and chief executive officer. "I am proud of our employees' dedication and commitment to our mission of bringing innovative therapies to patients with important unmet medical needs. By staying true to our values -- focusing on novel science, doing what is right for patients, and believing that every employee can make a difference each and every day -- we can remain a great place to work as we continue to experience an exciting stage of growth."

"The 100 Best Companies to Work For" list is compiled for FORTUNE by Robert Levering and Milton Moskowitz of the Great Place to Work Institute in San Francisco, based on two criteria: an evaluation of the policies and culture of each company, and the opinions of the company's employees. The latter is given more weight; two-thirds of the total score comes from employee responses to a 57-question survey which goes to a minimum of 400 randomly selected employees from each company. The remaining one-third of the score comes from FORTUNE's evaluation of each company's demographic makeup, compensation and benefits programs, and culture.
