Researchers led by scientists at The Cleveland Clinic have identified the first gene in patients who have epilepsy associated with a movement disorder called paroxysmal dyskinesia. The study provides the first direct genetic evidence that the co-existence of these conditions represents a new syndrome. Future research will seek to use the discovery to identify and develop new treatments for the neurological conditions. Complete research findings will appear June 5 in the online version of Nature Genetics and in the July print edition.
