San Antonio entrepreneur David Spencer is on a mission to develop technology that will help combat medics make better decisions when confronted with life-threatening injuries on the battlefield. For the past 18 months, Spencer’s fledging Speer Medical Devices Inc. has been working on creating a portable wireless gadget that noninvasively tracks eight vital signs, most notably hemoglobin levels — which can be an indicator of internal bleeding. The device, dubbed the HemoPod, will then take the data and offer suggestions on how to treat the injured soldier.
