Frost & Sullivan Commends Agilent Technologies Inc. for Its Exemplary Growth Through Aggressive Product Introductions

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., March 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Based on its recent analysis of the oscilloscopes market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Agilent Technologies with the 2011 Global Frost & Sullivan Award for Company of the Year. Frost & Sullivan ranked Agilent as the number two company in 2009, but its rapid revenue growth has earned it the leadership in market penetration.

Agilent has made concerted efforts to be a market leader. This is evidenced by its introduction of products in all segments of the oscilloscopes market. Agilent is also involved in various technology standards groups. Helping in the development of new technologies gives the company insights into the viability of these technologies, which in turn, benefits its product development process.

The high-end segment, which has traditionally been Agilent’s stronghold, saw the introduction of the Infiniium 90000 X-Series, while in the mainstream segment, the InfiniiVision 2000/3000 X-Series was its blockbuster product for 2011. Agilent is able to provide unique application-specific solutions across multiple hardware and software systems, which has helped it make large strides in both the high-end and mainstream segments of the market.

When it comes to high-end products, Agilent’s oscilloscopes division and its sister divisions pioneer technologies that are leveraged across multiple divisions, providing customers with the most accurate high-frequency measurement systems possible. Agilent-designed and developed high-performance application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) are at the heart of both its high-end and mainstream oscilloscopes. Agilent invested in a proprietary indium phosphide (InP) integrated circuit process to enable high-frequency capability of up to 33 GHz thanks to InP’s transistor speeds of greater than 200 GHz, while maintaining the industry’s lowest noise floor and jitter measurement floor. By integrating many features, such as oscilloscope data acquisition, display and analysis processing functions, into a single CMOS ASIC, Agilent has managed to reduce the cost of the InfiniiVision 2000/3000 X-Series significantly for the performance it provides.

“With applications increasing in complexity, customers require multiple testing instruments,” says Frost & Sullivan Industry Director Jessy Cavazos. “Agilent ranks first in most electronic test and measurement markets, including signal generators, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, power meters, and electronic counters, while its top competitors participate in only two to three product markets and excel mainly in one segment.”

The company has adopted indirect distribution channels for its mainstream oscilloscopes product line, which played a big role in the company’s growth over the last few years. The company now has numerous distributors all around the world, providing full access to customers. It has also paid particular attention to customer value, especially in the large mainstream, high-volume segment.

“The introduction of highly innovative products, the breadth of its portfolio that enables the provision of application-specific solutions, and the move toward indirect distribution channels for its mainstream oscilloscopes are some of the key reasons for Agilent’s success,” notes the analyst.

Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that demonstrated superior entrepreneurial ability in its industry during the research period. This award signifies the company’s identification of a unique and revolutionary product solution with significant market potential. Additionally, it certifies the company’s marketing strategy as sound and poised for success.

Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis and extensive secondary research in order to identify best practices in the industry.
