PALO ALTO, Calif., July 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Frost & Sullivan selected Medipattern Corporation as the recipient of the 2006 Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Innovation in recognition of its B-CAD, an innovative computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) application that helps in the early identification and diagnosis of breast cancer.
Conventional CAD modalities have helped increase the detection and workflow efficiency in the diagnosis of breast cancer; however, they lacked ultrasound capabilities. Medipattern plugged this gap with the introduction of its B-CAD system for the analysis of breast lesions during breast ultrasound.
“This development is significant for women’s medical imaging because breast ultrasound is commonly used to analyze and characterize suspicious lesions initially detected through screening mammography,” says Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Laura Kramer. “Since breast MRI may also be used after breast ultrasound for additional diagnosis as well as monitoring the effectiveness of chemotherapy and radiation treatments, B-CAD nicely rounds up the offerings in this segment of the CAD market.”
B-CAD helps radiologists analyze lesions through the application of algorithms that enable feature extraction. By incorporating the BI-RADS(R) lexicon, B-CAD is also expected to help with consistency between readings made by different radiologists and different breast centers.
This product is a software-only application that integrates easily with many mainstream imaging applications. Due to this, Medipattern is able to offer B-CAD at low prices, depending on the number of optional features in the system.
“The affordability of B-CAD popularizes it among imaging centers of all sizes,” notes Kramer. “If major insurance providers reach a positive coverage decision for the technology, B-CAD will also help increase revenue streams within the breast imaging arena -- a major boost for a market weighed down by low reimbursement levels and narrow operating margins.”
Each year Frost & Sullivan presents this Award to a company that has demonstrated excellence in new products and technologies within their industry. The recipient company has shown innovation by launching a broad line of emerging products and technologies.
“Medipattern is honored to receive its second Frost & Sullivan award in a matter of months,” says Jeff Collins, President & CEO of Medipattern. “These awards not only validate the direction the Company has taken, they demonstrate Medipattern’s growing range of functionality and the strength of our CADENZA suite of products.”
