Some of the unique collectible NFTs designed by Enjin for the SRF donations pilot
Enjin has now launched a pilot donations program in partnership with the SENS Research Foundation (SRF), a charity working to transform the way the world researches and treats age-related disease. The pilot is designed to showcase how a more playful and engaging framework for donors can be fostered by gamifying the fundraising process. In return for their contributions, donors will receive tangible rewards in the form of unique blockchain-based collectible items “minted” by Enjin on its platform (referred to as “non-fungible tokens” or “NFTs”).
For example, when a donor contributes to a charity using Enjin’s platform to fund a specific support item (such as food, medicine, livestock, etc), that donor will receive a virtual collectible NFT representing that donation. NFTs will provide both greater transparency for donations (as a permanent public record on the Ethereum blockchain) and as a visual item that will more deeply resonate with donors. In the case of the SRF pilot, the NFTs may be for specific lab equipment, funding for researchers, or some other pressing need of the foundation.
“The Enjin team is committed to using the tremendous power of blockchain to practically benefit and support struggling communities and important scientific research being done globally.” explained Maxim Blagov, CEO of Enjin, “By creating a more exciting, playful and incentive-based system for people to donate, we will encourage an ecosystem for active ongoing contributions with strong potential to go viral globally, instead of one-time donations.”
These NFT collectibles can be accumulated as individuals or in teams and can be actively traded, with donors encouraged to collect specific sets and create NFT portfolios to unlock special rewards. The allocation of NFT collectibles and rewards will also be entirely automated to reduce administrative burden on the organizations supported and allow ongoing scalability when specific funding campaigns get viral traction.
As more game platforms get on board, including those already integrated with Enjin, these NFTs will also be usable as in-game items to access a range of special perks. Currently, there are 30+ games already building with Enjin, with many more to come online over time.
“Our work to cure crippling age-related diseases relies entirely on active partners and donors like the Ethereum Foundation.” said Dr Aubrey de Grey, cofounder of the SRF, “Their ongoing support has a real and powerful positive impact on the vital work we’re doing to both improve quality of life and extend healthy human longevity.”
Vitalik Buterin, founder of the Ethereum Foundation, previously made a personal donation of $2.4M in Ether to SRF and continues to champion an organisational culture committed to active and meaningful philanthropic work.
“One of Ethereum Foundation’s goals is to grow our community through support for innovative projects that can have real and positive impact around the world.” said Aya Miyaguchi, Executive Director of the Ethereum Foundation, “We recognize the work of projects like Enjin that are building within the thriving Ethereum ecosystem and supporting worthy charitable causes like the SRF.”
