Edwards Lifesciences’ Board Approves New $500 Million Share Repurchase Program

IRVINE, CA--(Marketwire - February 11, 2010) - Edwards Lifesciences Corporation (NYSE: EW), a world leader in products and technologies to treat advanced cardiovascular disease, announced today that its board of directors has authorized a new share repurchase program to acquire up to an additional $500 million of the company’s outstanding common shares. Edwards expects to complete its current $250 million share repurchase program, which was authorized in July 2008, during the current quarter.

“This new program reaffirms the confidence we have in our long-term growth prospects, and provides us with an opportunity to continue returning value to shareholders,” said Michael A. Mussallem, Edwards Lifesciences’ chairman and CEO.

From January 1, 2008 through December 31, 2009, Edwards repurchased a total of 7.3 million shares for approximately $402 million. As of December 31, 2009, the company had approximately 56.6 million shares of common stock outstanding.

The company may repurchase shares in the open market or in privately negotiated transactions. The timing and extent of any repurchase will depend upon market conditions, corporate requirements and other factors.
