The town of Argyle, NY, where the first disposable catheter was invented, is losing perhaps its largest manufacturing plant producing that and other medical devices. Covidien on Monday made official what the company had been saying publicly since mid-2011: The factory in Argyle (population 3,800) will shut down. Covidien (NYSE: COV) put off the closure for awhile. But jobs began disappearing Jan. 4, and the plant will be closed as of June 2014, according to papers filed with the state Department of Labor. A total of 183 jobs will be lost.
